We started where you are.

The Same Sun was born inside a restaurant, not a boardroom. What we build comes directly from what we've had to figure out the hard way.

Origin

From the kitchen to the command center.

For years, we ran the kind of businesses our software is now built for. We know what it feels like to track compliance deadlines on sticky notes, to manage vendor relationships through text threads, to make financial decisions without the data you need. That experience isn't a narrative device — it's the foundation of every product decision we make.

Then

Shared services model

The Same Sun begins as a shared back-office operation giving independent hospitality businesses access to resources they couldn't afford alone.

Seth Stowaway opened Osito in San Francisco with a clear culinary vision and a complicated operational reality. Like most independent operators, he built systems out of necessity — stitched together from spreadsheets, email threads, and sheer persistence.

What he found along the way was that the problems weren't unique to him. Every operator was working around the same gaps: no centralized documentation, no reliable compliance tracking, no financial visibility, no marketing infrastructure. The tools that existed were either built for corporations or too generic to matter.

The Same Sun started as an answer to that — a shared back-office model for independent businesses. Over time, the insight deepened: the most scalable version of that model wasn't a service. It was software.

Software company

The pivot: what operators needed wasn't bandwidth, it was infrastructure. The Same Sun becomes a technology company, building platforms purpose-made for hospitality.

Intelligence layer

Both platforms evolve toward AI-driven capabilities, not just storing operational data, but advising on it. A system that thinks with operators, not just for them.

The pivot

Shared services got us here. Software is where we're going.

Running shared services for hospitality businesses taught us exactly what operators needed and exactly where the gaps were too deep to fix with human bandwidth alone. The answer was building it in.

"The most scalable version of what we were doing wasn't a service. It was a platform. So we built one."

Today, The Same Sun develops software platforms that give independent operators access to the kind of operational and marketing infrastructure that was previously only available to large groups. Not adapted tools, but platforms designed specifically for this industry, from the workflows up.

How we work

Five things we don't compromise on.

Innovation

We're not here to digitize the status quo. The hospitality industry has operated on workarounds for too long. We design toward what it should look like, not what it's always been.

Excellence

Commitment to the people we serve means doing the work properly. Every feature, every workflow, every decision is held to a standard: does this actually make running a restaurant better?

Integrity

Our products are built on the same principle as a good kitchen: no shortcuts where it counts. Transparent, honest, and accountable to operators, to partners, to each other.

Community

No one should have to reinvent the wheel alone. The networks, knowledge, and hard-won experience inside this company exist to be shared, with the operators using our products, and within our team.

Sustainability

We build for the long run. That means practices that hold up environmentally, financially, and culturally, both in how we operate and in how we help our partners operate.
